IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY
It’s Your Birthday was part of a series of music videos created in 2023 for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest — a national competition inviting singer-songwriters to perform original songs with just one rule: there must be a desk. While many artists record theirs with iPhones or handhelds, we wanted to show what happens when sonic intimacy is matched by visual beauty.
Shot in a Brooklyn apartment, this project paired soft, pastel-toned visuals with the raw warmth of live, layered vocals. We lit the space with diffused daylight through the window and subtle LED monolights to keep the atmosphere honest and glowing. Handheld footage invited the viewer to lean in, while the color grade preserved the emotional closeness of the moment.
The track features Eliza Edens on guitar and lead vocals, with Katie Martucci and Evangeline Young on harmonies. Audio was engineered by Adelyn Strei with support from Dex Wolfe, and executive produced by Katie Martucci.
This was a room full of artists at the top of their game — three voices interwoven, visually wrapped in softness and stillness. A song about birthdays, yes, but really about time, tenderness, and being seen.
